The GoodTimes! iPhone application is divided into two components: activities and tabs.

ACTIVITIES

A Good Times! activity contains the following fields...

Title:

Provides a brief, descriptive title for the activity, e.g. “Virginia Wine Festival”, “Shakespeare in the Park”, or “Story Hour at the Library”.

Category:

Assigns a category to the activity, e.g. “Festivals”, “Arts”, or “Kids”.  Categories are used throughout the application to filter views.  The application ships with eight categories, but this list of categories can be modified or added to from either the Categories or Settings tabs.

• Arts

• Family

• Festivals

• Games

• Kids

• Miscellaneous

• Shows

• Sports

Occurrence:

Defines the recurring time frame for the activity.  The activity occurs during this time frame every year.  Occurrence can be defined by any combination of Day of the Week, Month of the Year, or Time of the Day.

Day of the Week

  • Default is “Every Day”.
  • “General” lets you define a general day like “Every Monday” or the “Third Wednesday”.  "Weekend (2)" refers to Saturday and Sunday.  "Weekend (3)" refers to Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
  • “Specific” lets you define specific days during a month like “April 1 to April 15”.  Note that the months for the specific days are based on the months coded under “Month of the Year”.  You may need to define the months first and then come back and define the specific days.

Month of the Year

  • Default is “January to December”.
  • Pressing the “Synchronize” button will change the Ending Month to be the same as the Starting Month.
  • If the months are the same, the definition is “in” the month, e.g. “in October”.
  • If the months are not the same, the definition is “from/to” the months, e.g. “from October to December”.

Time of the Day

  • Default is “All Day”, but this does not display in the Activity Detail view.
  • A switch at the bottom of the Edit Time view is set to "All Day" by default. To set time, switch to "Uses Time".
  • Pressing the “Synchronize” button will change the Ending Time to be the same as the Starting Time.
  • If the times are the same, the definition is “at” the time, e.g. “at 7:30pm”.
  • If the times are not the same, the definition is “from/to” the times, e.g. “from 7:30pm to 9:30pm”.

Free:

“On” indicates the activity is free of charge.

“Off” indicates the activity is not free of charge.

Location:

Describes where the activity occurs.  Selecting the location address from the Activity Detail View will locate the address in the Maps application.

Contact:

Defines who to contact or where to find more information about the activity.  Contact options include name, phone number, email, URL, and address.  Selecting any of the options from the Activity Detail View will initiate the applicable Phone, Email, Safari, or Maps application.

Advanced Action:

Indicates whether some action is required in advance of the activity (e.g. registration, tickets, RSVP, etc.).  And if advanced action is required, you can define the date by which the action must be completed and provide helpful notes.

Notes:

Provides a place to keep notes about the activity.

To email the activity details, select the “Email Activity Detail” button at the bottom of the Activity Detail view.

TABS

The GoodTimes! application is divided into five tabs:

  • Activities
  • Categories
  • Dates
  • Random Pick
  • Settings

Activities Tab:

Provides a listing of all activities in alphabetical order.  Includes the ability to search by activity title.  Selecting an activity will take you to the Activity Detail View, and from there you can edit the activity. From the Activities tab, you can press the "+" symbol in the upper right corner to create a new activity.

Categories Tab:

Provides the ability to view all activities applicable to a specific category.  In addition to the defined list of categories, a category for "None" is displayed for those activities that have not been assigned a category yet. From the Categories view, pressing the "+" symbol in the upper right corner will take you to the Edit Categories view where you can add/modify/delete categories.  From the Categories tab, once you select a category you are taken to a view of activities for that category.  Selecting an activity from there will take you to the Activity Detail view, and from there you can edit the activity. If there are no activities for a category, selecting the category will take you to a blank view. On the view of activities, you can press the "+" symbol in the upper right corner to create a new activity.

Dates Tab:

Provides the ability to view a listing of activities by date.  Three viewing options are provided: in a calendar, by month of the year, and by day of the week.  You may also restrict the listing of activities in these views to a specific category.  The default is to view activities for all categories.  In the Calendar, dates with activities are highlighted. From each viewing option, selecting an activity will take you to the Activity Detail View, and from there you can edit the activity.  If there are no activities applicable to a particular month of the year or day of the week, selecting that month or day will take you to a blank view. From the Calendar or a listing of activities, you can press the "+" symbol in the upper right corner to create a new activity.

Random Pick Tab:

The Random Pick tab lets the application find a good time for you!  The Random Pick process looks for activities occurring “today” based on the category filter and free indicator settings you select.  And, if the activity doesn’t appeal to you, press the “search again” button!  If there are no applicable activities for your search criteria, you will receive the message "No activities found for today".

Settings Tab:

The Settings tab contains options for you to edit categories, set the time format, access online help, and obtain application support.

Have a GoodTime!
